About Janice

 Janice considers herself a native Coastsider, having moved here in 1958 at the age of 4.  Her horticultural roots run deep – her grandparents, uncles, and father all started the second nursery in Half Moon Bay in the early 60’s (McCahon Nursery), which was/is next to Cameron’s Pub on Highway 1.   Despite her parents leaving the nursery business in the late 60’s to become Realtors, her inner passion for gardening never waned.  Although she majored in Dietetics at UC Davis, she managed to squeeze in a few plant-related courses along the way.  

She has worn many hats over the years, including: Registered Dietitian; dental office manager; small business consultant/bookkeeper; treasurer for multiple non-profits, co-owner of a construction company; and office manager and kitchen/bath designer for her son’s construction company (RM Construction), not to mention being a mother of 3 wonderful children – Robbie, Rachel and David.  

Once she became a UC Master Gardener in 2010, she discovered her true calling in life and eventually started Seascape Succulents in 2016, which has since evolved into Seascapes Garden Design.   She feels so fortunate to be able to work outdoors, doing what she loves most and sharing her gardening knowledge with others.
